Balconies, Apostles, and Asses Ears

Thanks to Lizzy’s official birthday we had a long weekend and decided to go see a little bit of Australia while we could. We’ve been wanting to get over to the Grampians mountain range and national park for a while, so we rented a car (which turned out to be the lovely color of a taxi) and booked a cabin at the Asses Ears Wilderness Lodge and took off.

We lucked out with the accommodation being on the side of the park that isn’t blocked off by flood damage as well as set on 400 acres of land right next to the park. We had a little cabin to ourselves and vast views of native bush with lots of kangaroos. It was a great place to spend a weekend. After visiting all the major lookouts and waterfalls we even had a little top-bunk picnic since our tiny cabin had four bunk beds to spare and Steve discovered all the heat was at the top of the room.

On Monday we decided that while we were out that direction, we might as well drop down to the coast and go see the Twelve Apostles then drive along the Great Ocean Road to go back to Melbourne. It was an epic drive, but worth it for all the gorgeous scenery.

I think we’ve both got the travel bug again after our little escape…
