Having said a temporary goodbye to Megs parents, we slowly made our way back to the ferry and the return voyage back to reality… sniff sniff. We went out with a bang though and had one last South island ‘fish n Chips’ at Kaikoura, mmm… This little guy made a special and somewhat cheeky daytime appearance at a campsite on our South Island travels so we had to put him on the blog! On the return journey north, and keeping to our goal of seeing as many mountains as possible this time around the south, we drove through Arthur’s Pass – a mountain crossing linking the east and west coasts of the South Island. After they headed off though, leaving us in charge of staking out a campsite [...] We’re doing things a bit accelerated this time around as my parents only have a few weeks to see everything. So after a quick stop on the golden sands of the Abel Tasman we headed down the west coast as quick as we could, admiring the amazing scenery the whole way of course. Then it [...] After weeks of relaxation and seeing every inch of the Marlborough Sounds, my parents have finally arrived – and they’ve done so in style. We rendezvous-ed at the vista point that overlooks the ferry port and ooh-ed and aaah-ed at their fancy van. They’d suggested meeting in the green-lip mussel capital of the world for [...] So we headed down the coast a tiny bit just for a change of scenery and camped at a beach site. We hadn’t paid our camp fees yet when we went to bed and planned to drop them in the box on our way out the next day. Then at 4am we got a knock [...] We’ve got several weeks between parental visits, so we’ve been hanging out in the Marlborough sounds, somewhat off the radar. It’s been one of our favorite parts of the South Island and there are loads of great campsites in the secluded bays. That and the Queen Charlotte Walkway is here. We’re just taking it easy, [...] |
