Botanical Bliss

The Botanical Gardens have become one of our favo(u)rite places in Melbourne and also doubles as our backyard. It’s pretty much the best public garden I’ve seen, and I love that we can just stroll on over there anytime we want. So here are a few pictures to share our gardens with you.

Christmas Down Under

Well, we’re still not used to warm-weather Christmases, but we’re getting good at orphans’ Christmases. This year we spent the afternoon and evening with a great mix of Dubliners and Americans and our one English representative. Carol and Nat cooked an amazing meal complete with ham and turkey, potatoes, veggies, and generally a lot of [...]

Will Wear Poncho for Jack Johnson

We are having record amounts of rain here in Melbourne at the moment. But, on Wednesday when I got a text from a friend offering a ticket to see Jack Johnson at the outdoor amphitheater in the park, I didn’t care that it was raining cats and dogs. It ended up raining as much as it [...]

New Home

Situated in the fantastic neighborhood of South Yarra, just moments from the beautiful Botanic Gardens and the Yarra River, is this neat and tidy studio apartment. Over furnished, with great light that doubles as solar heating, a short distance from the bed to the kitchen for those midnight cravings, with loads cupboard space for stashing [...]

Girl Bike

I finally got myself a girl bike – purple and all. :)
It’s definitely the best way to get around, and we’re looking forward to some weekend bike adventures.

Going overseas?

While the rest of the country got excited about horse races and “high fashion”, we escaped to the coast for a weekend of camping. And thank goodness for waterproof tents! Actually, we lucked out. Saturday was rainy all day, but apparently it was nothing like the downpours happening back in Melbourne. Lucky we had an [...]

The beach!

With the rest of Victoria suffering from ‘AFL final’ induced hangovers, we hit one of the beaches on the bay and caught some rays. It was about 24 degrees and so hot in the fierce sun that we had to seek shade. Not sure how I’m going to cope in the summer when it hits [...]

How much is that doggy in the window?

About $20 actually  – stuffed and with “realistic breathing motion” .We had to take a pic though, as he reminded us of our favourite Californian canine. Would probably make less of an impact on my toast in the mornings as well!

In the Ranges

So we’ve taken advantage of Melbourne’s great public transport network and for the cost of a coffee we took a train and spent the day in the Dandenong Ranges – big eucalyptus forested hills about an hour from the city centre. The weather’s really starting to warm up now, and we did a 10k walk [...]
